One of the primary challenges firefighters encounter during fire eruptions, especially in industrial and urban areas, is the lack of access to a reliable water source and consistent water supply. Every second counts. There’s no time to lose. Fortunately, the HYTRANS mobile fire suppression system is designed to address this issue.
In situations where there is no fixed water supply system, or the existing system is insufficient, it becomes crucial to pump water from sources like rivers, lakes, harbours, or the open sea.
However, factors such as water flow and pressure, accessibility, time, distance, and labour availability can complicate this process.
How Is It Different?
The HYTRANS mobile fire suppression system is innovative and compact, making it easy to deploy and handle. It only requires an open water source like a river, even if it’s far away!
The mobile water supply system includes a large diameter hose capable of supplying water over long distances quickly.
The hydraulic pump, submerged in water, can continuously pump large volumes of water, enabling the fire brigade to effectively do their job.
Here are the components of our HYTRANS mobile water supply systems.
Fire Suppression System Used By;
- Fire Brigades & Emergency Services
- Industries such as Petro-Chemicals and Major Hazard Facilities
- Water Utilities & Governments
The purpose of the HYTRANS system is to transport large volumes of liquid over long distances while ensuring a continuous water flow.
During large-scale fires, floods, and earthquakes, the main challenges are always:
- Water supply (flow and pressure)
- Access to water. Often, an open water source is needed to supply the required water volume.
- Time
- Distance
- Labour availability
When a fixed system is absent, damaged, or inadequate, it is necessary to pump from an open water source. This includes rivers, lakes, harbours, and the open sea. However, conventional suction pumps often face draft limitations, making water access difficult. HYTRANS from the Netherlands has developed a system to overcome this problem: the HYTRANS Mobile Water Supply System.
Buncefield Fire 2005
In 2005, fire brigades managing the Buncefield fuel depot fire in the UK utilised 14 units of the HYTRANS HydroSub HS150 to tackle the largest post-WWII fire in Europe. HYTRANS high volume pumps (HVPs) pumped water to the site from an open source 1.8 km away. The water was distributed across the site for firefighting and cooling unscathed tanks. Additionally, the team used the pumps to transfer contaminated runoff between bunds and empty tanks to prevent an ecological disaster.
